ScanTap is a digital business card. It exists to share your contact details and to capture the details of people who choose to share theirs back. This page explains exactly what we hold, why, and how to get rid of it.
ScanTap is operated by JNM Professional Services LLC ("we", "us"). It covers the ScanTap iOS app and the scantap.cards website, including the public card pages your QR code opens.
The short version
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we run no advertising SDKs.
- Your card is public by design — anyone with your QR code or card link can see what you chose to put on it.
- You can delete your account, and everything in it, from inside the app at any time.
What we collect
Information you give us
| Data | Why we have it |
|---|---|
| Email address and password | To create and secure your account. Passwords are stored only as a bcrypt hash — we cannot read them. |
| Your card content: name, job title, photo, phone numbers and extensions, email addresses, website and social links, postal address, important dates, booking link | This is the card itself. It is shown to anyone who opens your card link, but only the items you switch on. |
| Business profiles: business name, logo, address, contact details, custom fields | So you can keep separate cards for separate businesses. |
| Card design, QR code and tap-action settings; email signature settings | To render your card, QR image and email signature. |
Information other people give us through your card
This is the part worth reading twice. When someone opens your card they may choose to send their own details back to you, and they may request a meeting. When they do, we store those details on your behalf.
- Contacts shared back with you — name, email, phone, company and an optional note, plus which of your cards they scanned and when. This is only ever collected when the other person actively chooses to submit it. Nothing is read from their device without them picking it.
- Meeting requests — the requester's name and contact details, the time and length they asked for, and their subject line.
You control this data and can delete any individual entry, export the whole list, or remove all of it by deleting your account. If someone asks you to remove their details, you can do that yourself in Saved Contacts. Because you decide what to do with these contacts, you are responsible for how you use them — see the Terms of Use.
Information collected automatically
- Card activity — when your card is opened or your contact file is downloaded, we record the time, the IP address of the visitor, their browser user-agent, an approximate country, and which tap action ran. This is what lets you see that your card is getting used. We do not use it to build advertising profiles.
- Diagnostics — we use Microsoft Application Insights to record errors and performance so we can fix faults. It may include IP address and device or browser information.
ScanTap does not use cookies for advertising or analytics. The website sets one essential cookie to keep you signed in.
How we use it
- To operate your card, QR code, public card page and email signature.
- To send you transactional email — password resets and notifications about meeting requests. We do not send marketing email.
- To show you your own card activity.
- To keep the service secure, including rate-limiting sign-in attempts to block automated attacks.
- To diagnose and fix faults.
We do not use your data, or contacts captured through your card, to train machine learning models.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers that run ScanTap, and only so far as they need it:
- Microsoft Azure — hosting, database and file storage, in the United States (East US region).
- Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Graph — sending transactional email.
- Microsoft Application Insights — error and performance diagnostics.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or where necessary to investigate abuse of the service.
Where it is held, and for how long
Your data is stored in the United States. We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Card activity records are kept so you can review your own history, and are removed with your account.
Password reset links expire one hour after they are issued and can only be used once.
Deleting your account
Open ScanTap, go to your dashboard, and choose Delete my account. This permanently removes your account, profiles, businesses, card designs, QR codes, saved contacts, meeting requests, email signature settings, activity history, and every image you uploaded. Your QR code and card link stop working immediately. It cannot be undone.
Deletions take effect straight away. Encrypted infrastructure backups may retain data for a short period before they age out, and they are never used to restore a deleted account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or receive a copy of it, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. Most of this you can do yourself: your card data is editable in the app, your captured contacts are exportable as a .vcf or .csv file, and account deletion is immediate and in-app.
For anything you cannot do yourself, write to us at support@scantap.cards and we will respond. We do not charge for these requests and we will not treat you differently for making one.
Children
ScanTap is a professional networking tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit with HTTPS and encrypted at rest by Azure. Passwords are stored only as bcrypt hashes. Access to production systems is restricted and authenticated. No system is perfectly secure, but if we ever discover a breach affecting your data we will tell you.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
